AI-Enabled Offloading for Sub-Millisecond Processing in Haptic Deadband Encoders

Haptic communication systems require efficient processing for high fidelity and low latency, crucial in VR/AR and telerobotics. This paper presents AI-enabled offloading, which leverages AI accelerators for magnitude calculations in haptic deadband encoders. By autonomously offloading critical operations, the method achieves sub-millisecond processing (as low as 0.034 ms), reducing CPU load and improving system responsiveness. Experimental results show significant latency reductions and bandwidth efficiency, demonstrating AI-enabled offloading's potential for real-time haptic systems.

Abstract

Haptic communication systems require efficient processing for high fidelity and low latency, crucial in VR/AR and telerobotics. This paper presents AI-enabled offloading, which leverages AI accelerators for magnitude calculations in haptic deadband encoders. By autonomously offloading critical operations, the method achieves sub-millisecond processing (as low as 0.034 ms), reducing CPU load and improving system responsiveness. Experimental results show significant latency reductions and bandwidth efficiency, demonstrating AI-enabled offloading's potential for real-time haptic systems.
