Coordinated Planning of Integrated Electricity-Heat Energy System Considering Flexible Heat Supply and Heat Network Expansion

Under the impetus of the global energy transition and the carbon neutrality goal, the evolution of the energy structure for heating systems is accelerating towards the clean and multi-energy complementarity. Because of the zero-emission as well as the highly efficient and flexible characteristics, the flexible heat source equipment has become an important part for low-carbon heating at present. This paper proposes a collaborative planning method for the integrated electricity-heat energy system (IEHS), considering multi-type flexible heating supplies and the heat network expansion. Aiming at total cost minimization, this approach simultaneously considers the power flow characteristics of the power network as well as the hydraulic and thermal coupling characteristics of the heat network to determine the most cost-effective deployment schemes for combined heat and power (CHP) units, heat storage tanks (HST), electric boilers (EB), heat pipelines, transmission lines, traditional thermal power (TP) units and wind farms. The installation locations of electric boilers and heat storage tanks are studied, particularly for the network-side heat stations and the head of the heat networks. The collaborative planning of the source, the network, and the storage is developed. To validate the feasibility and effectiveness of this approach, an 18-node heating system and the IEEE 39-bus power grid are employed for verification. According to the planning results, it can be known that the simultaneous configuration of HSTs and EBs can enhance the heating flexibility and the economy. By deploying flexible heat source devices at the heat exchange station, not only has the heat energy loss been effectively reduced, but also the economic efficiency of the system has been significantly enhanced through the optimization of the heat source investment portfolio.
