Optimal Placement of Mobile Generators Considering Power Loss Reduction and Voltage Stability Improvement in Microgrid

In remote island regions, aging infrastructure and limited grid connectivity frequently compromise power supply reliability and quality. To address this, microgrid systems equipped with distributed generation (DG), energy storage systems (ESS), and mobile generators (MG) offer a resilient alternative capable of autonomous operation. This study proposes an optimal placement strategy for trailer-mounted MG in networked island microgrids, aiming to reduce power losses and enhance voltage stability. A genetic algorithm (GA) is employed to solve the nonlinear multi-objective optimization problem. Power flow simulations based on the Newton-Raphson method are conducted using a modified virtual microgrid distribution system. The results demonstrate that GA-based deployment significantly outperforms conventional and sampling-based placement schemes, yielding lower voltage deviation and energy losses. Furthermore, the proposed method remains effective even under grid topology changes, such as feeder downgrading or bus decommissioning, offering a flexible and robust planning tool for improving power system performance in isolated and underserved regions.
