Design Optimization of the HALF Beam Lifetime Measurement System
This paper presents a numerical processing method to optimize the design of beam lifetime measurement systems by minimizing calculation errors. The method establishes a relational model between the beam lifetime calculation error and the machine parameters as well as the measurement system parameters. The beam lifetime is approximated as constant for relatively short times. Therefore, a systematic error propagation model is established through analytical derivation, enabling uncertainty quantification of beam lifetime measurements based on averaging algorithms. It is discussed how to optimize the design of a beam lifetime measurement system based on existing equipment and machine parameters. To demonstrate the validity of the method, we employed numerical simulations and experimental data from Hefei Light Source (HLS) and Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF). The results show that the beam lifetime error formula is accurate and in good agreement with experimental data. This research provides fundamental guidance for optimizing the beam lifetime measurement system at the Hefei Advanced Light Facility (HALF).
