Impedance Stability Simulation in SST Grid: A Comparison Between Ideal and Average Switch Models
Solid-state transformers (SSTs) are gaining increasing attention due to their potential in modern power systems. As SST applications expand into increasingly complex scenarios, the computational burden associated with simulating their dynamic behavior and impedance stability has emerged as a critical challenge. This study leverages the DSIM software’s simulation framework to model SST, utilizing both averaged and detailed models. The impedance characteristics of the SST system are compared across different modeling approaches. The results reveal that the averaged and detailed models exhibit highly similar trends in impedance characteristics in wide frequency ranges. However, evident differences arise in frequency ranges associated with switching operations. As power electronics systems become increasingly complex, with an increasing number of power electronic devices and a wider range of switching frequencies, the difference due the switching operations may need further investigation to validate the efficacy of averaged model for the impedance analysis.
