A Four-Leg Multilevel Inverter Based on Model Predictive Control for Unbalanced Loads Using Multi-DC Source Concept

This paper introduces a four-leg multilevel inverter that utilizes the concept of multiple DC power supplies to handle unbalanced loads. By integrating multiple DC power sources, the inverter can generate different voltage levels, enhancing its adaptability to various load requirements. Different from traditional control strategies, this paper employs Model Predictive Control (MPC) to optimize the inverter's performance. It eliminates the need for current PI controllers, complex modulation stages, and the computational complexity similar to 3D-SVPWM, ensuring efficient operation even under unbalanced load conditions and reducing harmonic distortion. To improve the converter's efficiency, an algorithm for reducing the switching losses. Simulation and experimental outcomes validate that the proposed inverter can effectively supply stable power for unbalanced loads and enhance power quality.
