A Fault Characteristic Evolution-Based Grid Partitioning Method for Meshed Distribution Networks
In recent years, with the integration of a high proportion of distributed generators (DGs), the operational structure of distribution networks has gradually shifted toward a meshed configuration. The formation of meshed distribution networks alters their fault characteristics, leading to frequent fluctuations in short-circuit current magnitudes, potential maloperation of line protections, and compromised accuracy of fault isolation. Therefore, this paper proposes a grid partitioning method for meshed distribution networks based on fault characteristic evolution, which utilizes the variations in fault characteristics to guide the division of operational grids. First, a fault characteristic evolution model is established to analyze the variation patterns of fault characteristics. Second, a two-stage grid partitioning model for meshed distribution networks is developed, incorporating fault characteristics: the first stage partitions feeders to mitigate the impact of fault characteristic fluctuations on the system; the second stage partitions grids to enhance their autonomous capability. Finally, case studies comparing post-partitioning fault characteristics and restoration capabilities validate the feasibility and superiority of the proposed method.
