Study on the mechanical properties of lattice metamaterials made from truss-structured titanium alloys

Mechanical metamaterials exhibit exceptional lightweight and high-strength characteristics. To enhance the multifunctional structural design of metamaterials, this study systematically investigates the mechanical performance of six truss-based titanium alloy lattice metamaterials—SC, BCC, FCC, and their combinations SC+BCC, SC+FCC, and BCC+FCC—under quasi-static compression and dynamic impact loading. Specimens were fabricated using selective laser melting (SLM). The results indicate significant differences in deformation modes, compressive strength, and energy absorption performance among the various truss-based lattice configurations. Notably, the SC+FCC configuration exhibited superior overall mechanical performance across all strain rates, whereas the BCC+FCC configuration showed degraded performance due to a mismatch between the combined struts. Additionally, the metamaterials exhibited a strain rate strengthening effect under dynamic impact loading. This study provides an analysis of the quasi-static and dynamic mechanical behaviors of metamaterials with different topological configurations, aiming to offer experimental data to support the structural design and application of truss-based lattice metamaterials.
