Development And Validation Of A Questionnaire To Evaluate Worksite Exercise Programs

INTRODUCTION: The practice of short-duration exercise sessions in the workplace, known in Brazil as Labor Gymnastics, has been widely adopted and studied over the past decades. However, the low methodological quality of studies and the scarcity of specific assessment instruments have hindered the measurement of these programs' effectiveness in promoting occupational health. PURPOSE: To develop and validate a specific questionnaire for the evaluation of worksite exercise programs (WEP). METHODS: An exploratory quantitative study was conducted with a convenience, non-probabilistic sampling. The development of the questionnaire was based on a systematic review conducted in the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, identifying instruments and variables previously used in the evaluation of similar programs. The content was validated by a panel of five experts from the State University of Campinas, using the Content Validity Index (CVI > 0.80). The final questionnaire was structured into five sections: sociodemographic data, occupational history, program participation, perception of benefits, and satisfaction with the program. A pre-test was conducted with 30 workers, resulting in wording adjustments to three items and the exclusion of one question. The adjusted version was applied to 128 administrative and production workers at an industrial company in São Paulo (67% women; average age 34.7 ± 8.3 years), with a retest after 15 days (n = 98). RESULTS: Psychometric analysis revealed excellent internal consistency for the program effects (α = 0.904) and satisfaction sections (α = 0.847). Test-retest reliability, assessed by the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC), was satisfactory (ICC > 0.75) for 87% of the items. Agreement was high (k = 0.82) for "posture improvement" and moderate (k = 0.68-0.75) for items related to productivity and work environment. CONCLUSION: The questionnaire demonstrated adequate reliability, validity, and reproducibility indices, establishing itself as a valid tool for evaluating WEP.
