Quantitative dynamic structural color with mesoporous metamaterials

Structural color provides a versatile platform for creating vibrant, dynamic coloration by leveraging the wave nature of light. These devices hold significant promise for applications in sensing, diagnostics, and low-power displays. However, achieving large and quantitatively meaningful color changes in response to weak stimuli remains a key challenge. In this presentation, we will highlight our group's recent advancements in "hyperchromatic structural color" (HSC), a novel approach that co-designs both light and materials to maximize dynamic color responses. Finally, we introduce dual-band HSC as a breakthrough technique for addressing the qualitative limitations of traditional structural color devices, enabling quantitatively meaningful sensing with high spatiotemporal resolution.
