P.S. Zulen y los inicios de la lógica matemática en el Perú
This study explores the early introduction of mathematical logic in Peru, led by Pedro S. Zulen during the 1920s. At a time when Peruvian education relied heavily on syllogistic and inductive reasoning, Zulen embraced the ideas of Boole, Peano, Russell, and Whitehead. His Psychology and Logic Programs, developed for the second semester of 1924, represent the country’s first application of formal notation and the integration of logic as a foundation for modern mathematics. Although Zulen’s efforts were ultimately constrained by institutional barriers and his untimely death, his initiative laid the groundwork for the eventual establishment of mathematical logic in Latin America.
