FPGA realization of private image transmission using fractional-order chaotic signal based on memristor
Nonlinear memristive elements have emerged as a groundbreaking paradigm in information processing. Unlike traditional linear components, such as resistors, capacitors, and inductors, memristors are a class of non-linear devices that exhibit memory-dependent behavior. This paper presents an investigation for private image transmission using a synchronized chaotic waveform generator based on a fractional-order memristor model. The dynamics of the memristor exhibit a pinched hysteresis loop of zero-crossing with excitation current signals at different frequencies and fractional-order parameters, showing the unique non-linear characteristics of the memristor. These characteristics are incorporated into an oscillator model and approximated with an explicit fractional-order Runge-Kutta method, which is then analyzed using Lyapunov exponent to understand the system’s stability and chaotic behavior. We developed on the FPGA a private image transmission scheme involving the encryption of RGB and greyscale images by masking the pixels with samples of the chaotic signals with a simplified Shuffled Arnold Cat Map Scrambling technique for diffusion and confusion. The performance of the image transmission system is analyzed by correlation coefficient, information entropy measure, and differential attack test, which shows a high degree of confidentiality and efficiency.
