Improving the efficiency of pharmacological therapy for mixed anxietydepressive disorder through immune correction

According to current literature, anxiety-depressive spectrum disorders rank among the first in the structure of mental pathology, being among the most prevalent mental illnesses worldwide. Epidemiological studies indicate that these disorders affect 15-20% of the general population, highlighting their significant social and medical importance. In recent years, particular attention has been drawn to investigating the pathogenetic mechanisms of these disorders, with special focus on the hypothesis of immune-metabolic disturbances in the central nervous system regulation in this pathology. In the present study, the authors conducted a comprehensive assessment of mental status and laboratory parameters in 100 patients diagnosed with mixed anxiety-depressive disorder (MADD) receiving treatment at the day hospital of the Voronezh Regional Clinical Psychoneurological Dispensary. All patients underwent clinical-psychopathological and laboratory examinations before and after treatment courses, which included either selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) monotherapy in Group 1 or a differentiated pharmacological regimen in Group 2. A distinctive feature of the study was the inclusion of ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate as an additional immune correction agent with antioxidant properties for Group 2. The obtained results demonstrate that adding ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate to standard therapy not only enhanced clinical effectiveness against core psychopathological symptoms (including anxiety, depressive manifestations, and cognitive impairments) but also significantly improved immune-metabolic parameters. These findings confirm the rationale for including this medication in comprehensive treatment regimens for patients with anxiety-depressive disorders, opening up new perspectives for improving therapeutic outcomes in this prevalent condition.
