Research on the composition mechanism and renewal strategy of spontaneous space in historical and cultural neighbourhoods based on EEG technology
In the process of rapid urbanisation in China, the protection of historic and cultural districts is facing the dilemma of "a thousand cities in one". Spontaneous space, as an unplanned space formed by residents' daily practice, carries a unique spirit of place and vitality, but its spatial logic and perception mechanism have not been systematically analysed. In this study, we used electroencephalography (EEG) to analyse the mechanisms of spontaneous space perception in Wuhan's historic districts. Based on the spatial modulus modelling of 54 samples and a 30-person neural experiment, it was found that the interaction effects of spatial length and spontaneous spatial three-dimensional volume were significant for spatial perception. Accordingly, we propose a renewal strategy - linear catalyst activation and elastic volumetric synergy - which provides a neuroscientific basis for quantitatively assessing spatial vitality and promotes human-oriented urban renewal.
