Plasmonics: a solution for highest speed

Plasmonics has been touted a solution for highest speed for the past 40 years. Yet, only recently practical solutions with bandwidths in excess of 500GHz have been introduced. In this talk we will touch upon the challenges, the theory and latest experiments that have led to a new generation of plasmonic devices with the potential to overcome the known speed and bandwidth limitations of electronics and photonics alike. We will review latest plasmonic modulators, detectors and THz schemes.

Abstract

Plasmonics has been touted a solution for highest speed for the past 40 years. Yet, only recently practical solutions with bandwidths in excess of 500GHz have been introduced. In this talk we will touch upon the challenges, the theory and latest experiments that have led to a new generation of plasmonic devices with the potential to overcome the known speed and bandwidth limitations of electronics and photonics alike. We will review latest plasmonic modulators, detectors and THz schemes.
