A Novel Ultra Voltage Transfer DC/DC Bidirectional Converter for DC Microgrid Applications

ABSTRACT Owing to the falling phase of conventional resources, the renewable energy supply integrated microgrids are turning popular nowadays, where the bidirectional DC/DC converters with energy storage establish a significant role in maintaining grid reliability. This article presents a single inductor and switched capacitor based novel nonisolated DC/DC bidirectional converter (NDBC) performing ultra‐voltage transfer (UVT) with a reasonable component count of 15 for DC microgrid application. With the enhanced voltage transfer ratio, the proposed NDBC is capable of performing UVT in both step‐up (SU) and step‐down (SD) modes, where the SU duty ratio is ascending towards 0.5 and the SD duty ratio is descending towards 0.5. Moreover, the key attributes of the proposed NDBC are as follows: common grounding, continuous current at the low‐voltage side, and minimal voltage stress across all switches. In this article, the proposed NDBC is examined in both SU and SD modes while presenting a comprehensive analysis of steady‐state operation, power loss, and efficiency evaluation in a nonideal state, along with experimental validations. In real‐time, the proposed NDBC is operated with LAUNCHXL‐F28379D controller and tested under load power of approximately 190 W to validate the theoretical findings. Finally, a detailed comparative analysis with existing NDBCs is provided to demonstrate the proficiency of the proposed NDBC.
