Modern Time Study Methods for Assembly Line Optimization Emphasizing MTM

In today's competitive manufacturing environment, enhancing productivity while maintaining quality has become a primary objective.Assembly lines, being central to mass production, are highly sensitive to inefficiencies and delays.Time and motion studies have long been used to identify bottlenecks and optimize workflows.Among the various methods available, predetermined motion time systems (PMTS) such as Methods-Time Measurement (MTM) and Maynard Operation Sequence Technique (MOST) offer more structured and accurate evaluations compared to traditional stopwatch studies. This paper presents a focused technical comparison of major line balancing techniques, emphasizing MTM's role in improving assembly line efficiency.A comparative analysis of stopwatch studies, MOST, and MTM highlights MTM's advantages in precision, repeatability, and potential for standardization. The paper also discusses implementation challenges and suggests future research directions for integrating MTM with digital technologies.Findings suggest that MTM-based improvements can boost productivity by 15-30% in high-variation assembly environments.
