ACCIDENT PREVENTION IN HILLY AREAS USING IR SENSORS AND RELAYS
Accidents in hilly areas are often caused by sharp turns, steep slopes, poor visibility, and unexpected vehicle movement. To address these challenges, this project proposes a low-cost and efficient accident prevention system using Infrared (IR) sensors and relays. The system is designed to detect vehicles approaching from blind spots or around curves and to provide timely warnings to other vehicles or automated control systems.IR sensors are strategically placed at critical points such as hairpin bends, steep inclines, and road intersections. These sensors detect the presence and movement of vehicles and transmit the information to a microcontroller. When a potential collision or unsafe condition is detected-such as two vehicles approaching a blind turn from opposite directions-the system activates warning signals (like LED indicators, buzzers, or signboards) using relays. This alerts drivers in real-time, enabling them to take preventive action.Additionally, the system can be integrated with automatic barriers or vehicle speed control systems through relays to enhance safety. This intelligent approach to accident prevention significantly reduces the chances of head-on collisions and other common accidents in hilly terrains, ultimately saving lives and enhancing road safety. This project demonstrates a scalable and effective method of using simple electronic components to address a critical transportation safety issue in geographically challenging areas.
