Psychological resilience and social anxiety in aphasia: the mediating role of interpersonal relationship perception

This study investigated whether interpersonal relationship perception (IRP) mediates the association between psychological resilience (PR) and social anxiety (SA) in aphasia, while examining intergroup effects to inform rehabilitation strategies. A total of 288 participants completed validated measures: Perception of Competence in Life Domains Scale, Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), and Self-Consciousness Scale (SCS). Data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0 and Mplus 8.3, including mediation analysis and multigroup structural equation modeling (SEM). The study further explored and analyzed the mediation model, indicating that individuals’ negative interpersonal perception could affect and amplify the effect of lower levels of psychological resilience on social anxiety. It also showed that interpersonal relationship perception played a mediating role between psychological resilience and social anxiety, and the model had good cross group validity. This study expanded the perspective of psychological model research for individuals with aphasia and provided psychological insights for constructing more efficient and accurate care. It also contributed to the development of a more comprehensive theoretical framework for understanding the generation and progression of social anxiety.
