Enhancement of the Sagnac effect and sensitivity in the ring laser gyroscope
We consider a ring resonator embedded with a scattering interface and a Kerr nonlinear medium. The system is pumped with two laser beams of equal intensity and opposite in direction. We show that the Sagnac effect in the system is amplified due to the presence of a scattering interface and a Kerr nonlinear medium, resulting in an enhancement of sensitivity and stability. We study the influence of various system parameters in symmetrical and asymmetrical regimes of bistability/multistability, considering the presence and absence of internal loss as well as internal temperature. Furthermore, the study includes the switching ratio and gain of the system in a symmetrical bistable regime. The system may find application in developing high-precision and stable gyroscopes.
