A questão da autonomia na periferia

This paper aims to problematise the position of Latin America in the configuration of the multilateral trade system through the theory of autonomy. This theory is a theoretical proposition for international relations that emerged in Latin America in the context of the Cold War. This theory maintains its explanatory power of the international system as hierarchical and not anarchical, which corresponds to international regimes built under the interests of the great powers, such as the multilateral trade regime. The conclusion is that the theory of autonomy enables important reflections to understand the autonomy or dependency of Latin American countries in the multilateral trading system. In this sense, the structure of the multilateral trade system reinforces the peripheral role of Latin America in the primary economic sector and its condition of dependence.
