Healthy Fitness Is Associated With Sleep Behavior And Mobile Phone Addition In College Students In China
Healthy fitness is a set of subjects related to health that can be measured by specific tests; the average weekly Internet access time was 28.5 hours in China. And the issue of sleep quality has emerged as important public health issues worldwide. Although many countries have paid enough attention to the correlation of these issues, but there is no relevant research on college students in China. PURPOSE: To investigate the relationship between health fitness and mobile phone addictive and sleep behaviors in a cross-sectional study of a college student population. METHODS: 269 healthy college students (88 Y and 181 O) within a university in Beijing (20.55 ± 1.54 y). Healthy fitness tests, a survey of sleep behaviours, and a Mobile Phone Addiction Behaviour Survey and the correlation of them were analysed. Data were expressed as mean ± standard deviation, and Spearman's correlation coefficient was applied to analyze the correlation between factors. RESULTS: 1. Correlations between health fitness and sleep behaviour: (1) In female students, both body mass index (BMI) and body fat percentage were negatively correlated with time to sleep (p < 0.05); grip strength was negatively correlated with sleep efficiency (p < 0.05). (2) In male students, BMI was negatively correlated with both sleep quality and daytime dysfunction (p < 0.05); flexibility was positively correlated with both sleep disturbance and sleep quality (p < 0.05).2. The correlation between health fitness and mobile phone addictive behaviours: (1) In female students, both grip strength and flexibility were negatively correlated with loss of control (p < 0.05).3. Correlation between sleep behaviour and mobile phone addictive behaviour: (1) In female college students, both sleep disorder and sleep quality were positively correlated with withdrawal, avoidance and inefficacy (p < 0.01); daytime dysfunction was positively correlated with loss of control, withdrawal, inefficacy and avoidance (p < 0.001). (2) In male students, daytime dysfunction was positively correlated with both inefficacy and loss of control (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: There were gender differences in the correlation among factors. The correlation between grip strength also flexibility and mobile phone addiction was significant.
