ANALYSIS OF CAFFEINE CONTENT IN DIFFERENT DRINKS, PHARMCOLOGICAL, BENEFICIAL, AND ADVERSE EFFECTS: AN UPDATED REVIEW
The consumption of beverages containing caffeine has been on an upward trend worldwide, across variety of different populations and socio-cultural backgrounds. Caffeine has been used in moderate psychoactive therapy to stimulate the central nervous system, raise heart rate, and improve brain activity. The amount of caffeine and labelling requirements of the drinks should comply with the specific local regulatory requirements. A variety in the caffeine content is to be expected in different brands of soft drinks and or energy drinks. In this review, the researchers have tried to collect information on the caffeine content in different drink samples analysed using different analytical methods. The pharmacological action, pharmacokinetics, and adverse impact of caffeine were also summarised. A review of the available literature showed that different studies had different ranges in the caffeine content for the different drinks under review. This study will help consumers become aware of and are able to monitor their caffeine intake from multiple sources, especially beverages. Finally, ensuring the manufacturers adhere to the defined guidelines for the provision of accurate information in accordance with label claims. This study will provide insights that will help researchers understand the significance of caffeine content and its pharmacological effects.
