The Effects Of Different Exercise Modalities On Weight Loss In Obese College Students:meta-analysis

At present, different scholars are researching aerobic exercise (AE) and aerobic combined with resistance training (ACRT) weight loss programs, but for the obese college student population, which kind of exercise program has a more significant weight loss effect is still unclear. PURPOSE: To systematically evaluate the impact of (AE) and (ACRT) on obese college students' weight loss. METHODS: We searched databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, CNKI) till Nov. 1, 2024, with keywords including obesity, corpulence, fat, college students, university students, resistance exercise, resistance training, resisted movement, aerobic, aerobic training, aerobic exercise. The screening conditions were as follows: (a) Randomized controlled trials, (b) Participants were obese college students; (c) AE or ACRT were the training methods, and training lessons last at least 4 wk; (d) The study design consisted of an intervention group and a control group; (e) The final results of the study should include body Weight, BMI, Body fat percentage. RESULTS: A total of 5378 articles were screened out, and then the papers with duplicate titles and abstracts were removed; as a result, 5237 articles remained. An additional 5086 papers were removed after excluding the reviews and reading the abstracts; eventually, 151 articles were read in the full text according to the screening criteria; finally, 11 articles were included in the meta-analysis. The risk of bias was evaluated using the Cochrane Collaboration’s tools. Compared with AT ACRT is more effective in obese college students ' weight loss [1.73 (95%CI = 0.56,2.90), Z = 2.90 (p = 0.004)]. Through subgroup analysis of body fat percentage, the longer training time (≥40 min) has more effect on college students [-0.65 (95%CI = -1.06,-0.23), Z = 3.05 (P = 0.002)]. CONCLUSIONS: AERT has a greater effect on helping obese college students lose weight than AE alone.
