The use of simple, wireless Lenz lens for ultra-high field preclinical MRI at 9.4 T: a preliminary result

Motivation: Lenz lenses enhance local sensitivity by focusing the passively induced B1 field into smaller areas, particularly at the lens centre, thereby improving the SNR when the ROI is fully covered. Goal(s): This study aims to evaluate the introduction of a Lenz lens and to demonstrate the enhancement in performance resulting from its integration. Approach: The performance of the inserted lens within the existing RF coil was assessed using a 9.4T preclinical MRI scanner. Results: The SNR with the lens is approximately 10% in the region where the lens is present and 8% higher across the entire area compared to those without the lens. Impact: The incorporation of a wireless and flexible Lenz lens into the existing coil results in enhanced B1 field uniformity and improved SNR in the target region of interest at ultra-high field strengths.
