Diffusion MRI Analysis of Neuropathic Pain and Gliosis in the SNL Rat Model
Motivation: The spinal cord is vital for motor and sensory functions, and gliosis contributes to the intensification of neuropathic pain, necessitating an investigation into the mechanisms linking gliosis and pain. Goal(s): This study aims to investigate the connection between gliosis and neuropathic pain using diffusion MRI techniques. Approach: The SNL rat model was used to induce neuropathic pain, and ex vivo MRI experiments combined with glial cell staining were performed to analyze the relationship between MRI signals and gliosis. Results: Changes in diffusion parameters (FA and ODI) and glial cell activation were observed, indicating the involvement of gliosis in neuropathic pain. Impact: The study aids in developing strategies for treating neuropathic pain and understanding glial interactions in the spinal cord.
