Evaluation of blood flow energy loss before and after thoracic endovascular aortic repair for aneurysmal lesions using 4D Flow MRI

Motivation: To survey blood flow alteration after TEVAR for TAA using 4D Flow MRI. Goal(s): To reveal how energy loss occurs and interacts with other parameters. Approach: Velocity and degree of energy loss at the segment from the middle of ascending aorta to the distal end of Stent-graft landing were measured. Each value gained pre and post TEVAR were statistically compared, and the relation between energy loss and velocity were evaluated. Results: After TEVAR, the peak velocity increased at the starting point of Stent-Graft landing, and the degree of energy loss at the whole segment increased. Impact: TEVAR facilitates aortic stiffness and increases the antegrade velocity at the segment of Stent-Graft implantation. These alterations were considered as the main factors promoting further energy loss, which may concern with cardiac afterload.
