Age-modulated Alterations of Prostatic Morphology predicts Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms
Motivation: Identifying lower urinary tract symptooms (LUTS) in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is critical for improving patient management, particular early intervention. Goal(s): This study aims to explore MRI-based morphological indices for predicting LUTS in BPH patients, especially the age effect. Approach: Measurements including intravesical protrusion (IPP), membranous urethra-prostate angle (aMUP), and prostatic urethral angle (PUA) were analyzed for between-group difference. Results: IPP strongly predicted LUST in either two age gropus or obstructive/non-obstructive groups. Additinoally, age-related morphological changes, aMUP and MUL, may increase urethral resistance and energy loss, which were identified as predictive factors, supporting MRI use for early BPH diagnosis. Impact: This study highlights the clinical importance of MRI-derived morphological indexes, intravesical prostatic protrusion (IPP), for predicting LUTS in BPH patients at the age above 50, facilitating early diagnosis and personalized treatment planning.
