A resting state functional MRI study in migraineurs without aura in middle and high altitude areas

Motivation: Resting state fMRI is a potential method for studying migraine without aura (MwoA), its application in MwoA patients from middle and high altitude areas remains rare. Goal(s): To explore the characteristics and significance of changes in brain function during interictal periods in MwoA patients from mid-to-high altitude areas Approach: Two analytical techniques were employed: Regional Homogeneity (ReHo) and Amplitude of Low-Frequency Fluctuation (ALFF). Results: ALFF and ReHo assessments revealed abnormal spontaneous neural activity in several brain regions of MwoA patients in mid-to-high altitude areas. Impact: Cerebral functional changes in MwoA patients from mid-to-high altitude areas suggest that rs-fMRI is a promising method for studying MwoA, and this study addresses the international research gap in this field.
