Metabolic Insights and Diagnostic Potential of Multi-pool CEST MRI in Neonatal Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy: a pilot study
Motivation: Multi-pool chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) MRI provides a comprehensive explanation of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) metabolism Goal(s): Identify brain regions affected by HIE in neonates using multi-pool CEST MRI. Approach: Study of ten full-term HIE neonates and 25 controls. CEST images were registered to standard space and segmented into six regions using a neonatal atlas. Results: Significant reductions in NOE, MT, and APT signals were observed in left caudate; MT signal had highest AUC of 0.796. Impact: Multi-pool Lorentzian fitting method offers detailed metabolic information, potentially serving as an indicator for HIE diagnosis, monitoring, and prognosis.
