Removing Artifact of 3D Spiral In-Out with Accelerated Iterative Reconstruction using k-space Preconditioning

Motivation: The 3D spiral in/out trajectory is valuable in numerous applications, including functional MRI, but is susceptible to artifacts when an inaccurate density compensation function (DCF) is employed. Goal(s): Our objective is to eliminate these artifacts while reducing reconstruction time. Approach: using iterative reconstruction with k-space pre-conditioner Results: Image artifact was observed on 3D spiral-in/out trajectory when using inaccurate DCF. The artifact can be successfully removed using iterative reconstruction with significantly decreased iteration number (30 iteration to 10 iteration). Impact: This advancement is expected to benefit various applications relying on the spiral in/out trajectory, such as real time imaging and functional MRI.
