Correlation of cognitive reserve, neurovascular coupling and cognitive function in patients with mild cognitive impairment

Motivation: Cognitive reserve (CR), which can preserve cognitive function despite underlying neuropathology, explains at least some variability in cognitive performance. Goal(s): To explore the neurovascular coupling mechanisms underlying the impact of CR on cognitive function in patients with mild MCI using ASL and rs-fMRI imaging methods. Approach: To clarify the relationship among CR, neurovascular coupling, and cognitive performance, with correlation analysis and mediating analysis. Results: MCI patients showed significantly lower CRIq scores, with positive correlations between MoCA, AVLT scores, and CRIq.In the MCI group, the left inferior frontal gyrus CBF/ALFF ratio was negatively correlated with CRIq, MoCA, and AVLT scores. Impact: Individuals with higher CR demonstrate better cognitive function levels. Differential neurovascular coupling in specific brain regions between HC and MCI groups suggests a potential neural mechanism by which CR influences cognitive function.
