A miniaturized low-field MR device: Towards at-home non-invasive health monitoring
Motivation: With around 10% of the global population suffering from diabetes, glucose measurement methods remain costly and invasive. Goal(s): Development of a next-generation monitoring device to non-invasively provide accurate metabolic data. Approach: Build a miniaturized low field MRS device that allows for the non-invasive collection of high resolution imaging and spectroscopic in vivo data for quantification of metabolites. Results: We demonstrate the imaging and spectroscopic capability of our tabletop low field device. MRS results demonstrate parity with larger commercial MRS devices, as well as the ability to detect methylsulfonylmethane in vivo, using high resolution images for voxel selection. Impact: The development of a novel low-field miniaturized MRS device for providing accurate metabolic data non-invasively represents a major step toward an accurate non-invasive glucose monitor for diabetes management.
