Study of flow dynamics in realistic aneurysm phantom with 4D flow MRI, Optical Transmission (OT), and Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI)
Motivation: The risk of aneurysm rupture and treatment complications can lead to life-threatening bleeding. The flow dynamics may play an important role in understanding aneurysm formation and rupture. Goal(s): Visualization of flow dynamics in a realistic aneurysm phantom with 4D flow MRI, Optical transmission (OT), and Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI) and investigation of the influence of vessel curvature on flow dynamics. Approach: Measuring the flow dynamics in a 3D-printed aneurysm phantom using 4D flow MRI, OT and MPI. Results: Flow dynamics measured with 4D flow MRI, OT, and MPI show good agreement, and vessel curvature was found to strongly influence flow dynamics in aneurysms. Impact: Three modalities, 4D flow MRI, OT and MPI were used to visualize and compare the flow dynamics in realistic aneurysm phantoms with good agreement. The vessel curvature was found to strongly influence the flow dynamics.
