Systematically altered connectome gradient in patient with Type2-diabetes mellitus: Potential effect on cognitive function

Motivation: Type2-diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is known to affect brain networks, but the gradient structure changes and it's potential effect on cognitive function in patients with T2DM are still ambiguous. Goal(s): We aimed to investigate connectome gradient alterations and its potential contribution to cognitive function in T2DM. Approach: We use the resting-state functional MRI data to calculated principal and secondary connectome gradient of all participants, and the RVR algorithm was employed to predict cognitive function scores among T2DM patients using connectome gradients as features. Results: We reported a systematically disrupted functional gradient in patients with T2DM and its negative correlation with cognitive function. Impact: These findings improve our comprehension the neurobiological mechanisms that underlie cognitive function and offer potential imaging biomarkers for the assessment of cognitive function in T2DM.
