Uro-Dynamic MRI Reveals Biphasic Behavior of the Bladder During Voiding
Motivation: Current standards for the lower urinary tract (LUT) assessment provide limited anatomical information. Uro-Dynamic MRI non-invasively characterized bladder behavior as a non-linear event. Anatomical measurements (AM) describing bladder shape could be linked to urinary flow rate during voiding. Goal(s): Describe bladder behavior during voiding by linking anatomical changes and urinary flow rate. Approach: Uro-Dynamic MRI was implemented in 10 subjects. AM were quantified for each subject. Results: Sphericity index reveals biphasic behavior of bladder during voiding. Correlation coefficients between AM and urinary flow rate are higher when analyzing voiding event as a biphasic event rather than a single-phase event. Impact: Uro-Dynamic MRI reveals a biphasic behavior of bladder during voiding as measured by sphericity index. Correlation coefficients between anatomical measurements and urinary flow rates are higher when analyzing the voiding event as a biphasic event than as a singular event.
