Water Relaxation Atlas for Age- and Region-Specific Metabolite Correction in the Osprey MRS Analysis Workflow

Motivation: Current MRS water-referenced metabolite quantification uses fixed literature relaxation values, despite known age and regional variability. This causes inaccuracies, especially in aging studies, highlighting the need for age- and region-specific T1 and T2 values for accurate quantification. Goal(s): To develop a water relaxometry atlas with region- and age-specific T1 and T2 values integrated into the Osprey analysis workflow for improved MRS quantification. Approach: 101 participants were scanned to create the atlas, which was integrated into Osprey for age-and region-specific corrections. Results: The atlas revealed significant T1 and T2 variations across age and brain regions and was successfully incorporated into Osprey for improved accuracy. Impact: Integrating the age- and region-specific water relaxometry atlas into Osprey improves MRS metabolite quantification, particularly in aging studies, by reducing biases in water-referenced corrections.
