Towards Optimization of SNR at Both Frequencies of an UHF Double-Tuned Array: 7T 32-Element Transceiver 31P/1H Loop/Dipole Human Head Array.
Motivation: Placing transceiver(TxRx) X and 1H arrays into one layer closer to the sample preserves performance of a double-tuned(DT) RF array at both frequencies. Further SNR improvement requires more Rx elements(e.g.32), which is difficult to realize using loops. Goal(s): To verify feasibility of a densely-populated human head UHF 32-element DT array. Approach: At UHF, the array can be greatly simplified by using 1H dipoles. We developed a novel UHF loop/dipole DT array with 32 TxRx elements all placed in one layer. Results: We demonstrated feasibility of developing a tight-fitting densely-populated 32-element human head UHF DT array. First results showed reasonable performance at both frequencies. Impact: We demonstrated the feasibility of constructing and decoupling of a densely-populated 32-element double-tuned transceiver 7T human head array. First results show reasonable transmit and receive performance at both frequencies. The developed design can be even more beneficial at higher fields.
