Brain tissue conductivity decreases with age

Motivation: Human brain tissue conductivity with age can provide auxiliary information for healthy aging, as well as benefiting brain electromagnetic modelling and specific absorption rate estimation. Goal(s): To investigate the relationship between age and brain tissue conductivity. Approach: Using MREPT, data were acquired from 161 healthy participants, and the brain tissue conductivity values were extracted and analysed. Results: Brain tissue conductivity decreased over age, and the rate of decrease in female participants was less than that in males. Impact: Brain tissue conductivity is a potential biomarker for healthy aging, and the change over time is expected to be considered in many applications.
