Multi-parameter quantitative MRI study on the intervention of exogenous hydrogen sulfide in bone micro-environment of diabetic rabbits with CLI
Motivation: Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) donors or agonists may offer a new approach to treat diabetes-related bone micro-environment abnormalities. Goal(s): To find a non-invasive and effective method to assess the biological effects of exogenous H2S intervention. Approach: Quantitative MRI was used to evaluate the oxidative stress level in bone marrow endothelial cells and bone micro-structural changes in a diabetic rabbit model with critical limb ischemia following exogenous H2S intervention. Results: Exogenous H2S reduces the bone marrow microvascular permeability and bone marrow fat content by reducing the oxidative stress level of bone marrow vascular endothelial cells, improved bone microstructure of diabetic rabbits with CLI. Impact: This study provides quantitative imaging evidence for the protective mechanism of H₂S in diabetic critical limb ischemia complications.
