Aspects identitaires numides à l’aune du matériel conservé au Musée de Cirta

The Cirta Museum is one of the largest national museums. It was created in the 19th century to preserve and present artifacts directly linked to the history of the city, since prehistoric times. Its rich and highly interesting collections are composed of elements unearthed during archaeological excavations or discovered by chance. Among these objects, one can admire, among other things, funerary furniture from the royal mausoleum of El Khroub, votive steles, some of which are dedicated to Massinissa, and a veritable monetary treasure. The iconography and inscriptions presented on these artifacts are often valuable sources of information on the history of kings, the economy and trade, the army and its heroes, and religion. This contribution aims, based on this historical heritage, to outline the study of Numidian identity characteristics.
