MRI-guided PET reconstruction with adaptive prior strength of renal masses

Motivation: A method for MRI-guided PET reconstruction with adaptive prior strength was developed to improve PET image quality. This study aims to evaluate its effect on renal mass identification. Goal(s): Evaluate the impact of MRI-guided PET reconstruction on renal mass identification. Approach: The renal mass ROI was defined on HASTE MRI. SUVmax and SUVmean were obtained in the lesion ROIs. Results: MRI-guided PET reconstruction improves PET image quality and allows for better visual delineation of renal masses from the background. In the renal mass ROI, SUVmax decreases slightly with a higher MRI prior influence level, while SUVmean does not change. Impact: MRI-guided PET reconstruction improves PET image quality using high-resolution and high soft-tissue contrast MRI as prior. Our preliminary results demonstrate the feasibility of MRI-guided PET reconstruction in patients with renal mass.
