Mitigation of Artefacts caused by the Transceive Phase Assumption in Electrical Properties Tomography

Motivation: Mapping the patient's conductivity using "Electrical Properties Tomography" (EPT) yields valuable diagnostic information. Goal(s): Artefacts from the "Transceive Phase Assumption" (TPA), as usually applied for EPT, shall be reduced. Approach: The measurement of a first patient position (e.g. "head first") is combined with a (measured or mimicked) second position (e.g. "feet first"). Results: The approach successfully reduces artefacts arising from TPA. Although achieving less artefact reduction, mimicking the second position appears to be the preferred method, because measuring the second position is too cumbersome for clinical practice. Impact: The presented simple approach is able to increase the accuracy of electric conductivity reconstructed with "Electrical Properties Tomography" (EPT), and thus, might help to enable EPT as clinically relevant diagnostic tool.
