Increasing MSK MRI Capacity using Artificial Intelligence based Image Reconstruction (AI-IR): A Quality Improvement Project

Motivation: Increase MRI scanning capacity using AI enabled MR Reconstruction at a linked community diagnostic centre and trauma centre due to increasing demand and patient backlogs. Goal(s): Reduce scanning times for MSK scans, and increasing the number of patients scanned a day. Approach: A QI programme was initiated using the Model For Improvement. Results: Combined between the two sites, 6 extra patients per day are being scanned, these were at the CDC, reduction in times at the trauma centre have not yet led to increased capacity. This is being investigated. Impact: MRI referrals are rising exponentially, necessitating increasing MRI capacity. This work outlines a QI strategy that can increase capacity using AI and existing infrastructure.
