Multi-shot DWI alone may be sufficient for HCC surveillance
Motivation: Fast protocols for cancer surveillance depend on minimizing the number of sequences acquired Goal(s): Compare lesion conspicuity between multi-shot (ms)DWI (b=50,800 s/mm^2) and three T2 weighted imaging methods Approach: Contrast-to-noise ratios (CNR) and signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) were measured in cases of hepatocellular carcinoma HCC (LI-RADS 5 observations) Results: All HCC (n=28) were visible on low- and high-b values, with low b-value images showing superior CNR to T2 weighted imaging methods Impact: Multi-shot DWI offers superior CNR over T2 weighted imaging methods. In this small cohort all lesions were visible on msDWI. Thus msDWI alone may be sufficient for HCC surveillance and warrants further analysis in larger studies.
