A Wireless Endorectal Coil Based on a Near-Field Coupling Array System for Prostate MRI

Motivation: In prostate MRI, wired endorectal coils are commonly used to compensate for the SNR limitations of surface coils. However, due to components like preamplifier circuits and cables, these wired coils are not cost-effective for single-use applications. Goal(s): In this study, we aim to develop a disposable wireless coil for prostate imaging. Approach: A wireless endorectal coil based on a near-field coupled array coil system was developed. Results: Phantom experiments demonstrate that it achieves up to 7.8 times higher SNR compared to using traditional surface coils alone, and its incorporation enhances the parallel imaging performance of the pickup coil array. Impact: The wireless endorectal prostate coil proposed in this study offers a simple structure that enhances clinical adaptability and patient comfort. Its cost-effectiveness makes it suitable for disposable applications, improving hygiene during examinations and lowering disease transmission risks.
