Ultimate intrinsic SNR in the torso of a realistic body model
Motivation: Ultra-high field body imaging may offer opportunities for oncology thanks to potential SNR gain at high B0. Goal(s): To investigate how the ultimate intrinsic SNR (uiSNR) varies with increasing static magnetic field B0 in the torso of a realistic body model. Approach: The uiSNR in the torso was investigated by performing electromagnetic simulations with a randomly excited dipole cloud surrounding a realistic body model. Results: From 0.55 T to 3 T, the uiSNR increases approximately linearly with B0 (uiSNR∝B00.98±0.10). From 5 T to 14 T, the uiSNR increases superlinearly with an increase exponent around 2 (uiSNR∝B01.99±0.28). Impact: The superlinear increase exponent of uiSNR in the torso from 5 T to 14 T indicates promising potential for ultra-high field MRI in the body.
