Point-of-Care MRI vs Loose Ferromagnetic Objects
Motivation: Understanding projectile and crush risks in point-of-care MRI. Goal(s): To determine quantitative and qualitative data in relation to risks associated with loose ferromagnetic objects in proximity to a point-of-care MRI system. Approach: Physical measurements, simulation and calculations of forces on ferromagnetic objects in a static magnetic stray field. Results: Measured and simulated force data appear to match. Projectile zone, maximum forces and kinetic energies are established. Impact: This work establishes a method to measure and simulate forces to quantitatively and qualitatively understand the risks of loose ferromagnetic objects near point-of-care MRI systems. This should help operators manage risk and optimize working procedures with point-of-care MRI systems.
