Multiparametric characterization of hippocampal sclerosis using T1 and T2 normative modeling

Motivation: Multiparametric quantitative MRI allows the characterization of tissue microstructure and brain pathology. However, the combined estimation of regional T1 and T2 personalized deviations from a normative cohort remains underexplored. Goal(s): To develop a novel normative model for regional T1, and T2 values and assess its clinical relevance in detecting microstructural abnormalities in epileptic patients with hippocampal sclerosis. Approach: Normative models for T1, and T2 values were established and personalized regional deviations were extracted for individual patients. Brain asymmetry was assessed using the laterality index. Results: Combined regional T1, and T2 personalized deviations showed potential in characterizing hippocampal sclerosis. Impact: The study introduces a novel normative model for regional T1 and T2, enhancing the characterization of brain microstructure. This approach, assessed on epileptic patients with hippocampal sclerosis, highlights the clinical relevance of combined T1 and T2 mapping and laterality analysis.
