Highly-accelerated CSF-STREAM: two-fold faster CSF-mobility and FA measurement in PVS, via Locally Low Rank reconstruction

Motivation: CSF-STREAM is a high-resolution sequence designed to isolate CSF signal and compute its mobility, from large compartments down to small perivascular spaces. The downside is the long acquisition time. Goal(s): Halve the CSF-STREAM scan time, without compromising image quality. Approach: Increase the acceleration factor from 15x to 32x, while maintaining the image quality thanks to a joint reconstruction algorithm. Results: Scanning time is effectively reduced by half with resulting image quality comparable to the original 15x scan, while minimally impacting CSF-mobility and FA. Impact: The improvement in acquisition speed makes CSF-STREAM more suitable to fit into scanning protocols including patients. Together with the improvement in the reconstruction, we made CSF-STREAM a powerful, contrast-free sequence to study glymphatics in humans in-vivo.
